Description
In the land of Gonzi, children are taught to admire and respect the spirit of the Mighty Warrior through singing and dancing. Mpuonzi loves to join in the drama until the day her beloved brother dies in the dance. She then realises that all the training given to the boys to be great warriors leads to misery for all, and bloodshed. Mpuonzi’s spirit recoils against the spirit of the Mighty Warrior. She sets out to persuade her father, Mkole, to join her in her dream of tolerance and peace. But once Mkole reveals this dream to his brother, Nkabo, the guardian of the spirit, the die is cast. By beating the gong, Nkabo rouses the traditional court elders, and the spirit of the Mighty Warrior, himself, against Mpuonzi’s dream. Who will be victorious?

Joseph Situma is a lecturer in the Department of Philosophy at the University of Nairobi. Mpuonzi’s Dream is his first novel in the Moran Ruby Readers Series. He is working on other novels.
