The Delegate is a reader that is both educative and entertaining. It focuses on the problems the girl child faces in our society.
Its story line focuses on a girl named Chebet who gets orphaned early in life and has to drop out of school due to poverty and lack of school fees. Her relatives are keen to marry her off. According to her culture, she is expected to be circumcised before any marriage arrangements can be done.
She opts to run away from her home to the city hoping to get a better life. While in the city, Chebet endures more hardship including having to work as a househelp but in the long run manages to get sponsorship into school.
While at school the talented Chebet performs at the National Music Festivals where her performance earns her a chance to represent Kenya at the UN hence, she becomes a Delegate (youth representative at the UN).
