SELECTION OF AUTHORS FOR LITERARY MATERIAL AND COURSE MATERIAL: Through our experience working with authors, we test, evaluate and commission authors to participate in a project.
Reviewing of work from authors: Peer review is crucial. We therefore identify people that can review authors’ work. We give the direction on how to review the material for the publisher and author to get value from the material.
Editing and proofreading: We edit textbooks, reports, journal etc. This may include substantive, copy editing and proofreading. We check content and facts. We also check spelling, punctuations and consistency of the material. Any remaining errors are picked at the proofreading stage
Design and layout: This is usually called desktop publishing or DTP. We prepare a template to be approved by the publisher. Once we have a page design that you are happy with, we will prepare the book page by page. If there are any photographs, illustrations, figures or tables, they will be included in the text at the appropriate place. We also scan and clean up illustrations to be incorporated into the text. We also design the covers.
Generation of barcodes: ISBNs (International Standard Book Numbers) must be obtained by you, as you are the publisher. ISBNs are obtained from the Kenya National library Services. They will give you information on how to go about it. Barcodes are based on the ISBN. Once you have an ISBN, we can arrange the barcode for you. A bookshop will scan the barcode to access information about the book, such as the price and stock level.
Origination of illustrations: We have a pool of experienced artists that originate the illustrations. What you need to do is to give us an idea of the style of illustrations that you need.
